Helping Latino Seniors Script Their Future For Better Health

Even though 45 percent of Americans have one or more chronic conditions that require medication, one in three people never fill their prescriptions and three out of four don’t take their medications as directed, costing Americans $290 billion each year and causing life-threatening health problems.

Sacramento Metro Fire demos how NOT to put out a grease fire

Sacramento Metro Fire demos how NOT to put out a grease fire

By Katie Garner

Sacramento Metro Fire successfully gave a live fire demonstration on the dangers and proper extinguishing techniques for a stovetop grease fire today.

Using water isn’t one of them. The first photo shows a few seconds after the grease in a pot ignited. The second photo shows a glass of water, attached to a stick, pouring water onto the fire and the fire explosively grows. Officials started a grease fire inside of the Rancho Cordova Inn, about to be demolished. These kinds of fires are not to be put out by water, but can be by either by covering the engulfed pan with a lid or with a dry chemical fire extinguisher. Ooh La La Review: “Fifty Shades of Grey”

Ooh La La Review: “Fifty Shades of Grey”

By Amelia McLear

Like many of you (even if you aren’t confessing it!), I have recently become tied up in the world of Christian Grey and the steamy “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy.

Basically “Twilight” with explicit sex scenes, “Fifty Shades of Grey” and its companion books, “50 Shades Darker” and “50 Shades Freed” by E.L. James, have become absolute literary phenomena– #1, 2 and 3 respectively on the New York Times best-seller list for the past nine weeks... Read More

Sutter's Fort Presents "Hands on History" Event on Saturday, 5/19!

Sutter's Fort Presents "Hands on History" Event on Saturday, 5/19!

Continuing a popular series of interactive and fun “Hands on History” activities, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park will present a special “Hands on History: How Did John Sutter Expect to Make Money?” event on Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Fort visitors will learn how John Sutter engaged in a number of business ventures in an effort to achieve financial success.  In fact, Sutter even gave away land and a start in the ranching business to any family that could make it to California!  On this special day, Fort guests will receive replica pages of original Fort ledgers -- including the famous John Bidwell ledger -- that shows what items were for sale and at what price in the early days at Sutter’s Fort.  Similar to the writing on the ledgers, Fort visitors will have the hands-on opportunity to try their hands at early writing techniques using a quill pen.
